An Update on Maddie

Maddie is so happy now and growing in confidence each day. Her wounds are healing and she is receiving lots of TLC in her foster home.

Thanks to our supporters, and generous donations she has a collar with a tag, a bed and plenty of food. Your monetary donations pay for her vet care.

Maddie is so grateful to have been saved and lets her foster home know that every day! Here she is catching up on sleep!

Lucky Maddie

Meet Maddie, a little lady with a huge heart and a renewed will to survive.

Maddie came in to Animal Service (AS) as a stray with wounds on her torso and head. The staff suspected that she had been bitten or injured herself trying to escape from somewhere. And after almost a month—even with the staff at the shelter trying to make her comfortable—Maddie was losing the will to live.

Luckily for Maddie, KAR stepped up to help this sweet girl. She has only been in her foster home for 24 hours and is already significantly happier.

Thanks to our supporters she had warm blankets to sleep on and tasty food and treats to eat. Her appointment with Texas Corners Animal Hospital this morning went great. The vet staff shaved and treated the infected areas and prescribed antibiotics. In a couple of weeks Maddie should be feeling much better. This little girl is so thankful to be saved!

If you’d like to help KAR cover her vet bills, please visit our Donation page to find out how you can help. Check back for updates on Maddie’s story on her way to her forever home.

Send a Card for KAR

Makenna and her grandmother came to meet some of the rescue animals she's helping at Petco this weekend.

Please help KAR by supporting local business woman Makenna Lopez and her greeting card venture with Send Out Cards (SOC).

I really like sending cards to brighten people's days and have been doing so since 2008. My first goal is to raise $100 for my local animal rescue. Won't you join me in the crusade to change the world one card, one gift, one opportunity at a time?

Makenna, who is just 11 years old, has impressive entrepreneurial spirit and if she welcomes 10 new customers during the month of January she will donate her $100 bonus to KAR!

She has already welcomed three new customers and needs your help to get seven more. SOC is cost effective, a great way to stay in touch with friends, and raises money for our rescue.
Check out the link on how SOC works at

You can find out more about Makenna's cards on her Facebook page.

Zim is totally comfortable in his new home
This old dog--13 years old--has still got a few tricks up his sleeve.

Zim is quite the trickster, or accomplish thief, depending on who you ask. This little guy can break through child-proof locks on the cupboards and can even open the refrigerator; although he hasn't learned to open the new side-by-side model yet!

His wonderful new mom says, "He's such a character and I love him so much."

Thank you for giving him such a loving home Leigh Ann!

Pantera is doing well; very well. He feels most comfortable right now in one room, my office, but he makes a great companion!  I can tell he's on the verge of exploring more areas of the house!

I'm sending you a picture I took of him under my desk.
