Tigger and Toothless

Tigger and Toothless are two boys looking for their forever homes. They're both very playful and love to play all kinds of games with each other. Both kittens were raised as bottle babies and LOVE human attention. They are incredibly affection and will PURR like little motor boats! Read their full bios on our website and come meet them both at the June 29th adoption event at Petco

Toothless loves to lounge around.

There's so much to see outside!

A nice sunny window seat :)

This little boy LOVES belly rubs!

These two are quite the characters! Who knew paper bag handles could be so much fun?

Special Thanks to Sticks and Stones!

Kalamazoo Animal Rescue wants to give a big thank you to Sue, the owner of Sticks and Stones on the Kalamazoo Mall, for her support and contributions to our rescue.

Since a KAR donation canister was placed at her shop over the 2012 holiday season, it has become on of the best locations for donations in the area.

Over $170 was recently collected (pictured)! KAR volunteer, Nancy said, "In all the years I've been collecting donations for the rescue, I've never seen so much crammed inside one of these little boxes. It was deserving of a photo."

To put this is perspective--a good donation canister typically collects $25-$30 a month, so we are extremely appreciative for the support from Sue, her employees, and her customers whom have given so generously to help support Kalamazoo Animal Rescue's foster dogs and cats.

Sue also hosted the KAR craft show in her shop, where over $1,300 in sales of handmade ornaments went directly to KAR.

Sue's daughter also hosts a lemonade stand every summer during the mall sidewalk sales to raise funds for our rescue animals. Be sure to quench your thirst at during this year's Summer Sidewalk Sales July 25-27th

Be sure to visit Sue's wonderful shop, Sticks and Stones at 124 S. Kalamazoo Mall. Find them on Facebook here.

Beagle Puppies

The rescue has seven new beagle puppies and a wonderful beagle mom.

One of our wonderful dog foster volunteers took in a pregnant beagle mom--Ellie Mae--from AS days before she gave birth.

Ellie Mae is the proud momma of two boys and five girls. All the pups are growing and doing great; as is their mom!

Ellie Mae appears to be a purebred beagle and the puppies are almost certainly purebred as well, since Ellie Mae was running with a purebred male--that got away from Animal Services.

In just a few months KAR will have eight adoptable beagles looking for their loving forever homes!

Katniss & Toothless

Enjoying the view!
As you may know, these two siblings are at the Portage Animal Hospital this week to meet and greet with the public in hopes of finding their forever homes.

A nice sunny window seat!
These two kittens are a lot of fun! Full of energy--as all kittens are--and love to get into all sorts of shenanigans with each other. Once they wind-down, their little motor-boat starts running and it's time for a good snuggle (just as soon as the camera is out-of-reach too...).

Just some of the fun these two have!

Hi everyone, I'm Katniss

I'm a 12 week old little girl with fiery-orange fur and gorgeous galaxy eyes.

Like my namesake, I've learned that great adversity can be overcome. My momma was a feral cat and my siblings and I were raised in the rescue as bottle babies.

When my brother and I were 8 weeks old we thought we'd found our forever home together. Sadly, we were returned because a human had allergies.

My brother and I had tons of fun playing together in our new foster home!

But he was adopted just a few short days after we arrived there, leaving me all alone.

The humans that are taking care of me are really great though, and now I get all kinds of attention!

We play with all shorts of fun toys and get to snuggle and cuddle when I've worn myself out. I'm quite the snuggle-monster.

I really love to play and am a total kitten. It would be great if I could have other furry friends to play with, but I'd be happy with lots of human attention too!

Hopefully I'll meet my forever family soon so we can begin all kinds of new adventures together!

If you're interested in adopting me, please fill out an adoption application so that we can meet each other. You can read more of my story on my website profile page.

I can't wait to meet you!

6/15/13 Update

Hi everyone! Guess what? My other brother Toothless has come to stay with me at our new foster home. I'm having a blast showing him all the cool toys we get to play with here. He's not sure about the dog yet, but I LOVE her--she's not quite sure what to think of me yet though, LOL!

Better yet, we're going out to meet the public! Nightshade and I will be at the Portage Animal Hospital's cat adoption center Monday, June 17th-Friday, June 21st!

The clinic is located at the intersection of Portage Rd. and Center St. Hours are Monday-Friday 9-6 and Saturday 8-12. The staff will be happy to let you spend time with me and/or my brother in a private room if you think you might be interested in adopting me or my bother and I together.

We can't wait to meet you!

June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month

Did you know that June is adopt-a-shelter-cat month? Each year thousands of kittens are born during kitten season and join the millions of cats already in shelters and animal rescue groups. Undoubtedly, your local animal rescues and shelters have lots of cute, cuddly kitties of all ages looking for loving forever homes. So if you've been considering adopting a new feline companion, why not make June the month you add a new kitty (or two) into your family?

Bailey and Fi Fi

At KAR we have lots of wonderful cats and kittens looking for their forever homes. If you're looking to adopt, you can view our available cats and kittens on our website, and you can come meet them at one of our local adoption events

Maybe you want to help homeless cats and kittens but can't adopt. Don't worry, there are plenty of ways that you can help out.
  • Post to Social Media. If your friends or family are looking to adopt, let them know that June is adopt-a-shelter-cat month and point them to KAR. We have lots of great cats and kittens that just might be the right match for them. You can also help us promote our adoption events and special fundraiser events by sharing with your family and friends!
  •  Volunteer. We have many volunteer opportunities at KAR. Do you want to help cats and kittens find their forever homes? You can sign-up to be a foster home volunteer. Do you have photography skills? You can sign-up to be a volunteer and help our foster animals find forever homes by taking great photos to post on their website bios. See what other great opportunities KAR has to offer on our Volunteer page.
  • Donate. We're always in need of supplies--we've got a lot of mouths to feed!--and greatly appreciate any monetary or supply donations. You may not realize it, but small donations (one bag of food or a few dollars in a donation canister) can add up to make a huge difference to our foster animals. To learn how you can donate to KAR, check out our Donation page and view our Wishlist. Your support and generous donations mean the world to KAR and our foster animals.
